Seti Karnali Fishing and Rafting Expedition – 10 Days

The trip begins in Kathmandu with a full day dedicated to preparation and logistics. Participants meet the expedition leader for a detailed trip briefing covering safety, fishing techniques, river conditions, and conservation practices. Fishing gear and personal equipment are checked, permits are finalized, and any last-minute supplies are arranged. This day allows guests to relax, recover from travel, and prepare mentally and physically for the remote river expedition ahead. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Early in the morning, fly from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi in far-western Nepal. After arrival, continue by private 4WD vehicle on a scenic drive through rural landscapes and hill regions to reach the Seti Karnali River put-in point. Upon arrival, the rafting crew prepares equipment while guests settle into the first riverside camp. If time and conditions allow, a short introductory fishing session is arranged. Dinner and overnight camping by the river.

The first full river day begins with rafting downstream on the pristine Seti Karnali River. The day is spent fishing promising pools, runs, and eddies known for Golden Mahseer and other species. Angling is done both from the riverbank and raft, with guides assisting in identifying productive spots. The surroundings are wild and remote, offering dramatic gorges and untouched forest scenery. Camp is set on a sandy river beach for the night.

This day is dedicated entirely to fishing and exploration along the Seti Karnali. The pace is relaxed, allowing ample time to focus on prime fishing locations and refine techniques. Guests may explore nearby side streams, enjoy short hikes, or simply relax by the river between fishing sessions. Wildlife sightings and birdlife are common in this untouched environment. Continue rafting downstream toward the confluence where the Seti Karnali merges with the mighty Karnali River. This area is well known for deeper pools and stronger currents, attracting larger fish species such as Mahseer and Goonch catfish. Fishing at the confluence is a highlight of the trip, offering exciting angling opportunities. Camp is set near the confluence on a wide sandy beach. Overnight camping.

The journey now continues on the lower Karnali River, one of Nepal’s most iconic and powerful river systems. Fishing focuses on long runs, deep channels, and calm eddies along jungle-lined banks. Rafting sections are interspersed with frequent fishing stops. The vastness of the river and surrounding wilderness adds to the expedition feel. Overnight camping beside the river.

Another full day is spent fishing the lower Karnali, with time to revisit productive spots or explore new ones. During the day, there may be opportunities to visit nearby local villages and interact with communities living along the river corridor. This provides insight into the traditional lifestyle of the region. The evening is spent around a campfire, sharing stories and enjoying the peaceful river atmosphere. Overnight camping.

The final rafting and fishing day takes the group downstream to Chisapani, a classic take-out point on the Karnali River. Guests enjoy last fishing sessions along the way, making the most of the remaining river time. Upon reaching Chisapani, the expedition winds down with a relaxed evening, reflecting on the adventure. Overnight at camp or a simple local lodge.

After breakfast, depart Chisapani by vehicle and drive to Nepalgunj. From there, take a domestic flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel for rest and relaxation. The evening is free for shopping, sightseeing, or enjoying a farewell dinner. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
