Your Tamur River adventure begins with an early morning departure from Kathmandu. The quickest option is a scenic domestic flight of approximately 45 minutes to Biratnagar, situated in the fertile Terai plains near the Indian border. Upon arrival, we continue our journey by private vehicle through picturesque hills and traditional villages to Basantapur, the gateway to the eastern Himalayas.

The drive gradually climbs from the subtropical lowlands into cooler mountain landscapes, offering beautiful views of terraced hillsides and rural settlements.

Optional Road Transfer: Guests may also choose to travel entirely by road from Kathmandu to Basantapur. Please let us know your preferred transportation method when confirming your booking.

The walk is moderately challenging and generally takes around 4 to 5 hours. Our experienced trekking crew and porters will carry the expedition equipment and your duffel bags, allowing you to enjoy the hike comfortably.

The trail winds through dense rhododendron forests, moss-covered trees, and open ridges with spectacular Himalayan panoramas. During spring (March to May), these forests burst into brilliant shades of red, pink, and white as thousands of rhododendrons bloom across the hillsides.

On clear days, breathtaking views extend toward Mt. Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, and numerous surrounding peaks.

Along the way, we visit the revered Baraha Kshetra Temple, one of Nepal's most important Hindu pilgrimage sites, located near the confluence of the Tamur, Arun, and Sun Koshi Rivers. This sacred destination offers an excellent opportunity to explore its rich religious heritage, admire the temple complex, and experience the peaceful atmosphere before concluding the adventure.

Continuing downstream, we arrive at Chatara, the official take-out point of the expedition. Here, our river journey comes to an end, and we celebrate the successful completion of the expedition with a farewell lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, you have two options for your return journey:

Drive to Kathmandu: Travel by private tourist vehicle, a journey of approximately 14–15 hours, with scheduled breaks for refreshments, dinner, and rest along the way.
