The Tamur River is not just a rafting trip, it’s a raw, untamed expedition that begins high in the eastern Himalayas and pulls you deep into one of Nepal’s most isolated wilderness corridors. Fed by the glaciers of Kanchenjunga, the river surges through steep gorges and dense jungle, but before you even touch the water, you have to earn it. The journey starts with a long, winding drive from Kathmandu to the hill town of Basantapur, where the real adventure begins on foot. Over the next 4 days, you trek along rugged ridgelines and stone staircases, passing through remote Rai and Limbu villages, terraced fields, and rhododendron forests, with sweeping views of Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga unfolding on clear mornings. The trail climbs and dips through untouched landscapes, giving you a true sense of remoteness and anticipation as you descend toward the Tamur’s thundering waters at Dobhan.
Then the river takes over, wild, relentless, and electrifying. For 6 days, you ride continuous Class III to V rapids, crashing through powerful waves, navigating technical drops, and pushing through some of Nepal’s most exhilarating white water. Between the adrenaline, the river calms into emerald pools where you float past jungle-clad hills and hidden waterfalls. Nights are spent camping on pristine sandy beaches, cooking over open fires, sharing stories under a sky blazing with stars, completely cut off from the modern world. The blend of demanding trekking and high-intensity rafting makes this journey as much about endurance and exploration as it is about thrill. Tamur isn’t for the casual traveler, it’s for those who want to feel the Himalayas in their lungs, the river in their veins, and the wild in its purest form.
